In Social Studies we have been studying about various American legends, including Johnny Appleseed. After watching a quick video about him on Discovery Streaming and reading several trade books, we created a Circle Map together on the Promethean Board. After discussing his various contributions, the students created their own apple trees out of construction paper as a graphic organizer. Each student added five apples to the tree and wrote "Did you know?" facts on the apples.

Johnny Appleseed
This week we have been learning about the American legend, Johnny Appleseed. After reading about and watching a short video about his life, the students brainstormed facts that they learned about him on a Circle Map. They then used the Circle Map to help them write "Did you know?" questions. Writing facts as questions is a fun lesson I learned from my teammates a few years ago.

Johnny Appleseed
This week in Social Studies we read and studied about several American historical figures. One of our historical figures was the legendary Johnny Appleseed. As a part of their study, the students created their own apple tree graphic organizers. Each student wrote at least one fact about John Chapman, aka Johnny Appleseed, on each apple.
