Catching Snow in Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade students performed "Show Me The Snow" for their music program this year. To go along with this and some previous lessons on viewpoints, they drew various shapes such as half circles, circles, and rectangles and pieced them together to make a person looking up to catch a snowflake. They added details such as hair to make it more like them.

Holiday Collaborative Projects

During December, since we had a short month, my students mostly worked on collaborative projects. These are some Christmas trees that they made out of tomato cages, mesh fabric, and zip ties. Once I modeled for them how to get started, they were able to easily complete these on their own. We decorated the stage with them and in front of the library. 4th Grade also used them for their holiday PTA program. Included is a picture of a sign the students and I made for their show using the school's poster maker, some die-cuts, scissors, and glue.

Dinosaurs: Third Grade

Third Grade performed "Dinostars" for the monthly PTA program. To go along with their program, they created dinosaur art. They first painted the sky background using orange, yellow, and purple. They then added a dinosaur in black construction  paper to the sky background to create positive and negative space.

Fourth Grade Foil Lines

Fourth Grade students used various art materials to create their low-relief line art. They started with a piece of cardboard and cut slits into the edges. They then weaved yarn through the slits and across the cardboard creating various diagonal lines. They then wrapped the cardboard in foil and smoothed it out over the yarn causing areas of low-relief. They then colored in the low-relief areas with Sharpie Markers. Thank you to PTA for buying these materials for us!

Dallas Heritage Village Field Trip

Last Thursday we visited Dallas Heritage Village. The students were able to see how people lived in the past. They viewed an old school, hotel, house, bank, and a blacksmith. They visited gardens and observed animals such as chickens, sheep, and donkeys. It was rewarding to see how excited they were about history! Thank you to PTA for making this trip financially possible and to the parents who took a day from work to help us chaperone.

Parent Guest Reader

We had a parent volunteer from PTA, who happens to have three students (yes, triplets) in our class, visit recently to read to the students. They enjoyed hearing a parent read them several stories. Thank you for supporting our class and school!

Thank You PTA!

Last Friday the students in our class, along with one class from every other grade level, were awarded with a popcorn party from PTA for having the highest percentage of family members to join PTA for our grade level. The students loved the red, white and blue popcorn treat. One of the students even made a Moseley Thunderbird out of their popcorn. Thank you to all of the parents and other family members who joined PTA!
